It’s October, we’re now well into the autumn season with the days getting shorter and the nights longer and colder. That usually means one thing when it comes to energy bills… rising costs :(

As of October 1st, the PSO levy rose by 30% (coming to around an extra €25 annually) and last Friday both SSE Airtricity and Bord Gáis Energy announced not unsubstantial energy price hikes. They might be the first two suppliers to raise their prices in some time, but unfortunately, it’s likely that others will follow suit in the coming weeks, especially considering wholesale gas increased by 30% back at the end of August.

As we forever advocate here at, the quickest and easiest way to offset rising costs and energy price hikes is to compare and #DitchAndSwitch suppliers if you haven’t done so within the last 12 months. This is because most suppliers offer introductory discounted rates that usually last for the first year of your contract, after which point you will be automatically reverted to standard, and typically more expensive rates. Therefore, if you switch suppliers at the end of your first year, you can avoid higher rates by signing up with a new supplier and a new introductory offer.

According to the CRU, just 14% of households switched energy suppliers in 2016, meaning that an incredible 86% of Irish customers are probably paying more than they have to. By switching suppliers for both gas and energy, the average user can save up to €324 on a year’s worth of energy bills.

€324 is key

In order to help raise awareness of the importance of switching, we’re offering a €324 bonus to one lucky household that decides to #DitchAndSwitch before the 13th of October 2017. Why €324 you ask?
