Flogas announces second price increase of the year
Rob Flynn
Staff Writer

Flogas has announced another significant increase in the price of its gas and electricity, which will affect tens of thousands of customers nationwide from mid August.

Flogas has become the latest energy supplier to up its prices for customers in 2022.

The unit price of its gas is going up by 24.1% while its electricity unit rate will see an increase of 9.8%. However the standing charge is not being increased for now.

The price change is scheduled to come into effect from August 19th.

How will it affect bills?

The increase will add around €360 a year to the average customer's gas bill and €195 to the average electricity bill.

Has Flogas already increased prices?

Yes. This is the second price increase of the year from Flogas.

Its last increase came into effect in May and added over €500 a year to customers' electricity bills and over €400 a year to their gas bills.

Taking both price hikes into consideration, this is a combined increase of almost €1,500 for gas and electricity customers so far this year alone.

Last year Flogas raised its prices four times.

This means the average Flogas customer is now, astonishingly, looking at paying around €2,300 a year for their gas and €2,600 a year for their electricity.

Commenting on the announcement, Paul Kenny, General Manager at Flogas Energy said:

As energy customers ourselves, we are keenly aware of the impact of increasing costs on Irish households. Energy cost increases are affecting all suppliers and while we are continually looking at ways to keep our costs low, we have no option but to increase our rates in the current environment.

We will support affected customers though our Customer Service teams as much as possible, and have a range of supports including payment plans, Budget Pay options and prepayment meters. We would ask any customer of ours who is facing financial pressure around their energy bills to contact us.

Price increases in 2022

Over a dozen energy suppliers have increased their prices since the beginning of 2022.

Electric Ireland was the last supplier before Flogas to announce an increase. You can read about it here.

Flogas has also joined both Electric Ireland and Prepay Power in upping its prices for a second time this year.
