Bord Gáis Energy has announced a range of new gas and electricity discounts for new and existing customers, along with a €100 cashback offer for new electricity customers and a free boiler service for new gas customers.
Another week, another double-digit energy discount!
Following hot on the heels of new electricity and dual fuel discounts from Energia and SSE Airtricity, and price cuts by Electric Ireland and Flogas, Bord Gáis Energy has announced a range of new discounts and sign-up incentives for new and existing customers.
And on the morning after the coldest night of the winter so far, the news comes at a good time!
Let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
Electricity: 10% discount and €100 cashback
New Bord Gáis Energy electricity only customers will get a 10% discount, which takes the unit rate down to 14.23 cent per kWh (excluding VAT).
When taxes, PSO Levy and Standing Charges are factored in, the average household will spend about €1,074 for a year of electricity with the supplier. And that’s a saving of around €108 against standard rates.
In addition to the 10% discount, the supplier is offering new electricity customers a €100 cashback, which can be used whenever the customer chooses! Handy when looking to soften the hit of a hefty winter bill, for example.
Gas: 8% Discount and a Free Boiler Service
There’s an 8% discount on offer to new Bord Gáis Energy gas only customers, which takes the cost per kWh down to 4.65 cent (excluding VAT). What that really means is that a household with average gas consumption will pay €880 (including taxes and Standing Charges) for a year of gas with the supplier, which is €79 cheaper than standard rates.
As part of this deal, Bord Gáis Energy is also offering a free boiler service, worth €99. This is a nice touch by the supplier and will allow new customers to get some peace of mind about the health of their boilers for the New Year.
Dual Fuel: 12% Electricity Discount, 10% Gas Discount, €100 Cashback and a Free Boiler Service
Bord Gáis Energy is saving the biggest discounts for customers who sign up for both gas and electricity with the supplier.
With a 12% electricity discount, customers will pay 13.91 cent per kWh (excluding VAT), which means a year-one electricity cost of €1,055 for the average household.
An 8% gas discount takes the unit price down to 4.55 cent (excluding VAT). When VAT, Carbon Tax and Standing Charges are factored in, the average household on Bord Gáis Energy’s new dual fuel plan will pay about €864 for gas for the first 12 months.
So, in total, €1,919 is what a household with average consumption will pay on their energy bills with the supplier’s new discounts. And that amounts to a saving of about €222 when compared to standard rates.
But that’s not where the offer ends!
The €100 cashback, which can be used at any time, along with a free boiler service worth €99 are also being offered to new dual fuel customers.
Existing Gas Customers
While many suppliers offer discounts to new customers only, Bord Gáis Energy is has an incentive for existing customers that add either gas or electricity to their existing plan.
Existing gas customers who switch to electricity with the supplier will get a 12% electricity discount, a 7% gas discount and €100 cashback.
As shown above, Bord Gáis Energy’s 12% electricity discount means that the average household will pay about €1,055 for electricity. And a 7% gas discount with the supplier will cost the average household about €888 in year one.
So, existing Bord Gáis Energy gas customers will pay a total of about €1,943 their energy bills by switching to electricity with the supplier. That’s a saving of €183 against standard rates…and there’s also €100 cashback to add to that!
Existing Electricity Customers
There’s a 7% electricity discount, along with a 10% gas discount and a free boiler service for existing Bord Gáis Energy electricity customers who sign up for gas with the supplier.
This will cost the average household €1,102 for electricity and about €864 for gas, once the discounts and all taxes and charges have been applied. For those without a calculator handy, that adds up to a year-one energy bill cost of about €1,967, which is €159 cheaper than standard rates.
There’s a free boiler service worth €99 thrown in too!
With so much movement in the energy market, some members of the press are suggesting that there's a price war taking place. Either way, it has been a good start to the month for customers looking to save money on their energy bills as sign-up incentives and big discounts continue to appear in the marketplace.
And of course, they’re all available for sign-up on bonkers.ie now.
