With low wholesale energy prices continuing, the lower prices will be much welcomed by bill payers who have seen their electricity use vastly increase since the beginning of the ongoing lockdown.

Spring is in the air and at any other time we would be revelling in the outdoors and enjoying the good weather, but for now we're hunkering down with a box set instead of making unnecessary journeys.

With more time spent indoors, especially over the next number of weeks, it’s not a bad idea to review your energy bills, what with your energy consumption increasing.

And if you’re considering switching you couldn’t do so at a better time as yet another supplier has waded into the mix and decided to lower its energy prices - this time it’s the turn of Pinergy.

To find out more just read on!

Who is Pinergy?

Founded in 2012, Pinergy is an Irish-owned smart energy company that supplies electricity to the Pay As You Go energy market.

The electricity supplier provides 100% green electricity as well as smart energy technologies that help customers to monitor and control electricity usage, with the overall goal of empowering customers to be more sustainable.

What’s new?

Pinergy is now the fifth energy supplier to announce a reduction on its standard household energy prices, which will come into effect from 1st June 2020 for domestic energy customers. Its reducing its standard unit rate on electricity by 2.6% meaning a saving of €23.36 per year for customers.

The saving is based on customers who are on a 24-hour standard tariff and with a typical energy consumption of 4,200 kWh per annum.

CEO of Pinergy, Enda Gunnell said:

"This is a difficult time for many people during the current Covid-19 crisis and we are working with our customers who have been impacted. Our teams are available, and I’d encourage any customers who have concerns about their energy plans to contact us. We will do our best to help.

"Pinergy’s smart energy management technologies, based on smart metering, support domestic and business customers to more easily monitor and track their energy usage, getting instant real-time visibility on energy costs. Pinergy also supplies 100% Green Electricity to all its customers.

"Through more active engagement and efficient usage in their energy consumption, many of Pinergy’s domestic customers have enjoyed energy savings of over 20 per cent by changing to its smart based technology.”

Smart & sustainable

Pinergy employs the use of a number of smart technologies to help both businesses and homes across Ireland on the journey to becoming more energy efficient.

With the Pinergy Smart Energy Manager app for your mobile phone, customers can see precisely how much electricity they’re using, giving you more control over your energy usage and your bills.

Not only does Pinergy help reduce energy waste with innovative technology, it also helps to reduce carbon emissions by providing 100% green electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, as well as hydro power.

PAYG & Covid-19

The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) recently announced that it would increase the emergency credit levels for all Pay-As-You-Go gas customers from €10 to €100.

The body made the decision to help customers who were not able to leave their homes due to Covid-19, as gas PAYG meters cannot be topped up online or over the phone.

No such increase has been made for PAYG electricity customers, however, who can top up by purchasing credit in a variety of local shops, post offices, online or over the phone.

The emergency credit for electricity customers is still available at €10 - the credit will then be deducted the next time your meter is topped up.

Important to note is that all credit must be repaid before it can be used again, meaning it is best to strictly use this as an emergency credit. In other words, electricity users will need to top up by at least €15 in order to use the facility again.
