Virgin Media is to expand its superfast fibre network in the mid-west and create 120 new jobs in its Limerick-based Customer Experience Centre.
There was good news for homes and businesses in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary this morning, with the announcement that Virgin Media is to expand its superfast fibre broadband network in the mid-west region.
The provider is proud of its lightning-fast broadband speeds, which are the fastest that are widely available in Ireland.
Virgin Media's network is available to around 750,000 homes in Ireland at the moment, but that's going to increase by 10,000 in the near future with the expansion into the mid-west.
Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary are home to some of Ireland's worst broadband black spots, and with the National Broadband Plan plagued by delays, today's announcement by Virgin Media will be very well-received by households in these areas.
New jobs
Virgin Media is also planning on adding 120 new jobs to its National Customer Experience Centre in Roxboro in Limerick, taking the total number of staff there to 400.
The provider has had a presence in Limerick since 2001 and this morning's new jobs announcement was welcomed by Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, who said; "Virgin Media has consistently been one of the biggest employers in Limerick and I commend them for this jobs decision and their continuing investments in the mid-west".
The new roles are already being filled and are mainly in the areas of sales and customer care.

Virgin Media's expansion announcement comes after it uncovered a number of fascinating findings on Irish people's attitudes to broadband in last year's Digital Insights Report.
The report found that more than half of us believe that digital technology makes us better at our jobs but only 69% of us are actually happy with our broadband. Virgin Media looks determined to increase this figure following today's news.
