5G broadband from 3 is now available to sign up to on bonkers.ie, with the first three months entirely free.

If you’re looking for fast and cheap broadband that is easy to set up, then look no further than the latest deal from 3, which is now available to sign up to on bonkers.ie.

It’s offering ultra-fast 5G (mobile) broadband for just €39 a month with the first three months absolutely free.

But first, a reminder…

What is 5G (mobile) broadband?

5G broadband uses the same 5G network for sending and receiving data as your mobile phone. It differs from fixed-line broadband which uses either a copper wire or fibre cable that runs into your home to transmit data instead.

As it’s wireless, you don’t need to worry about installation or the quality of your landline.

You get a small device into which you insert a SIM, plug it into a socket, and away you go.

And if you’re moving house or going somewhere on holiday in Ireland for example, you can just unplug your device and bring your broadband with you!

Mobile broadband is ideal for people in areas where good quality, fixed-line broadband isn’t available or who are looking for a slightly cheaper price.

Speed and quality

With the rollout of 5G over the past few years, the speeds possible with mobile broadband have increased dramatically. In most cases, the speeds match those of many pure-fibre broadband deals.

Where mobile broadband can suffer is when there are several people in a household using the network for data-heavy activities at the same time. In rare cases, the signal with mobile broadband can be affected by extreme weather conditions. And the average speeds you get are likely to be more variable compared to fixed-line, pure-fibre broadband.

In general, if only one or two people live at your home, mobile broadband should be more than suitable for your needs.

But if there are four or more people living at your home, especially some data-hungry teenagers, then a fixed-line, pure-fibre connection is usually advised.

The offer

3 is offering 5G broadband for just €39 a month on a 24-month contract. However the price will rise by the rate of inflation plus 3% every April under 3’s new ‘annual price adjustment’ rule.

On top of this, for a limited time, the first three months are absolutely free.

There are no signup fees and you don’t need to pay anything extra for your device - which is also yours to keep when you come to the end of your contract.

You can get speeds of up to 500Mbps and there is no download limit.

To sign up, just head to our broadband checker, input your address or eircode, and we’ll let you know if the service is available at your address.

If you’re in an area not covered by 5G just yet, then you should be able to sign up to 3’s 4G service for €30 a month instead.

Let's hear from you!
