The new deal will see customers pay just under €50 a month for an entire year.

With Christmas just around the corner lots of time will inevitably be spent on the couch catching up on our TV favourites and streaming the latest shows from Netflix and Amazon Prime.

So it goes without saying that a top-notch broadband and TV package is what every household needs this festive season. And if it can be for as cheap as possible then all the better!

So this latest offer from Eir is sure to pique your interest...

What’s on offer?

Eir is now offering its broadband, home phone and TV ‘tripleplay’ bundle for a discounted price of €49.98 a month for an ENTIRE YEAR. Previously the discount only lasted for six months.

After the year is up you can stay with Eir and pay the standard price of €79.98 a month or switch to a new provider.

With the new deal you get up to 100Mbps broadband, unlimited off-peak local and national calls, 50+ TV channels with Eir TV as well as the Eir Sport pack and Virgin Media Sport for free. You’ll also get a year’s free subscription to Amazon Prime Video - just in time to bingewatch the new series of the Marvelous Mrs Maisel!

However one of the best parts of the package in our opinion is that you’ll also get an Apple TV 4K box for free...

Eir TV with Apple TV

Eir recently teamed up with Apple to incorporate its TV service into Apple TV. This made Eir the first TV provider in the world to use the Apple TV 4K device as its sole set-top box.

Apple TV is the media player from Apple that lets you stream content onto your TV. It currently gives users access to iTunes films and TV shows, Apple TV channels, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and other apps such as Netflix and YouTube. It will also give users access to Apple TV+, the new on-demand streaming service from Apple that’ll compete with the likes of Netflix and has hit shows from the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

And now it contains Eir’s TV service, which includes HD as standard, the Eir Sport pack and Virgin Media Sport, the RTE Player, and over 50 live TV channels like RTE 1 and 2, BBC 1, 2 and 4, Channel 4, and Virgin Media 1, 2 and 3 etc. Customers will also get a one-year free subscription to Apple TV+.

The service also includes a new seven-day catch-up feature, the ability to pause and rewind live TV on certain channels and record up to 500 programmes.

Who’s the deal available to?

The tripleplay deal is available to new customers only. However existing Eir broadband customers and existing TV customers can still avail of the Amazon Prime Video offer.

The good...

At €49.98 a month for an entire year, the first-year cost is a good bit cheaper than Sky or Virgin Media at the moment. What’s more, you'll get a snazzy Apple TV 4K box at no additional cost. And of course a free Amazon Prime Video subscription too. Although not as popular in Ireland yet as Netflix, the streaming service has a host of top-quality original shows like The Man in The High Castle and the Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

What’s more, if you’re also a SuperValu Real Rewards member, you can collect points every time you pay your Eir bill, simply by linking your Eir account and your Real Rewards card. For every €2 that you pay on your bill, you'll get 1 Real Rewards point. You'll also receive bonus points (currently 250) when you first start.

You can also spend your Real Rewards points to save up to €60 every year on your Eir bill, with 250 points knocking €3 off your bill and 500 points knocking off €6. But Eir and SuperValu often run 'bonus promotions' whereby 250 points will knock a fiver off your bill and 500 points a tenner. Not too shabby!

The bad...

At up to 100Mbps, the broadband isn't exactly lightning quick but it should be more than enough for most households. But the main watchout is that you can’t presently record and pause live TV on some channels including RTE, BBC, and Virgin Media. So no stopping Corrie for a few minutes while you make a cuppa or fast forwarding the commercials for now!
