Electricity prices in Ireland are now the fourth most expensive in the European Union according to Eurostat.

The latest figures from the EU's statistical agency show that consumers here are paying 23% more for their electricity than the EU average, or an additional €202 extra each year.

But why are electricity prices here so high?
