Savings across the Bord

HOUSEHOLDERS should expect gas prices to drop by up to €140 a year from next month, according to energy industry experts.

By Kevin Jenkinson

Industry leader Bord Gais will be free to set its own prices from July 1 without permission from regulator, the Commission for Energy Regulation.

Simon Moynihan of price comparison website bonkers.ie said: "Deregulation should mean that prices come down. Currently Bord Gais are the most expensive in the domestic market with the average family paying almost €1,000 a year.

"By switching to FloGas they can save €140 a year, or by €138 if they go to Energia.

"So if Bord Gais wants to attract new customers and be top of the board come July they will need to reduce prices by about €140 a year, to become the cheapest supplier," says Simon Moynihan
