Competition in the energy market remains as cut-throat as ever as Bord Gáis Energy announces a 25% discount on electricity for new customers.

As summer comes to a close and the nights start to draw in, attention invariably turns once again to electricity costs and the dreaded heating bill!

So when Bord Gáis Energy announced today that it’s offering new customers a 25% discount on its electricity rates it was definitely news we could warm to on this chilly September day.

What’s the deal?

Bord Gáis Energy (BGE) is offering a 25% discount off its standard unit rate of electricity for NEW customers for a limited time. The supplier had been offering a 21% discount up until now but this new deal means you can save even more.

The discount means you’ll pay just 15.37 cent per kWh, one of the cheapest rates on the market right now.

The whopping discount lasts for 12 months after which time you can switch to another supplier or stay with BGE and revert to its standard rates.

To get this plan you must also sign up for direct debit and agree to online, paperless billing, but that’s pretty much standard these days.

Anything else?

Customers of BGE also get access to the Bord Gáis Energy Rewards Club, which is a special online club that gives customers access to rewards such as pre-sale tickets, discount tickets, flash sale tickets and last chance tickets for the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.

Also, BGE has a great partnership with Tesco which could help save you even more.

When you register your Tesco Clubcard, you’ll receive Clubcard points every time you pay your energy bill. For every €2 you pay off your bill, you’ll receive one Clubcard point.

If you're a Tesco customer you can also use your Clubcard vouchers to double the savings off your gas and electricity. So a €2.50 Tesco Clubcard voucher becomes €5 off your next energy bill and a €5.00 voucher becomes €10 off your bill. Not bad!
