The last few weeks have seen thousands of Irish people have their Christmas plans badly disrupted by extreme flooding. Storm Desmond, heavy rainfall and rising water levels have left communities in counties such as Cork, Limerick, Galway and more facing major financial uncertainty at what is already an expensive time of year.

The government has responded by deploying the Defence Forces and setting up emergency compensation clinics, locals have been out in force, fighting the flooding and now AIB is offering its customers a range of relief measures too.

What is AIB Offering?

Here are the details of what the bank is offering:

  • A moratorium on principal mortgage repayments of up to three months, based on each customer’s unique circumstances
  • Flexible repayment options on existing personal loans
  • Three-hour online approval for personal loans and overdrafts

Temporary Relief

The bank’s announcement should offer some relief to customers for the time being, at least by potentially removing any repayment pressures that might be looming.

The bank is also encouraging concerned customers to make contact without delay.

As stated by Robert Mulhall, Director of Retails, Corporate and Business Banking; “we are acutely aware of the circumstances facing our customers and encourage them to contact us if they need financial support or advice”.

Customers can call AIB on 0818 303 034 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday; and between 9am and 6pm on weekends.
