UPC has announced today that UTV will be available in High Definition for all Horizon customers in time for Christmas.

Bringing UTV HD to the UPC line-up follows a pattern of High Definition channel additions since UPC launched their Horizon TV service in August. UPC now has more than 20 HD channels available to their Horizon customers.

With the new UTV HD channel, customers watching over the Christmas period will be able to see Harry Potter, the two hour Downton Abbey special and Quantum of Solace in high defenition. The new UTV HD channel will replace the existing UTV channel for Horizon customers. Customers that do not have Horizon services may also be able to access HD channels with additional equipment. For those UPC customers, UTV HD will be at channel 138.

Earlier this week, UPC also announced another high definition offering with the addition of Setanta 1 HD. Setanta 1 HD is showing 33 Barclays Premier League games this season. For UPC Horizon TV customers, the new HD channel will replace the existing Setanta 1. For all other UPC customers, Setanta 1 will be at channel 436.

bonkers.ie Managing Director David Kerr said: “UPC is continuing to roll out new services and push more HD content which is free in many cases to their existing customers. Today’s announcement that UTV HD is being added is hot on the heels of their Setanta 1 HD announcement earlier this week.”

Mr Kerr continued: “This launch follows UPC’s content expansion strategy, which makes sense because it is content that is the battleground for TV offerings, and now more than ever, people are discerning of their viewing choices.”

HD channels are available to all UPC Horizon customers at no extra cost, non-Horizon customers may require additional equipment at €5 per month. UPC has aggressively promoted the new Horizon service which has resulted in 30,000 subscribers nationwide since its launch in August.
