Time flies when you’re having fun…and helping people save money! It doesn’t seem like four years since bonkers.ie became the first energy price comparison site to win CER accreditation. Since then, we have had our CER accreditation renewed every year and this afternoon we received the good news that our accreditation has been confirmed for another 12 months.

What Does it Mean?

CER stands for ‘Commission of Energy Regulation’ and it’s their job to ensure that Ireland’s energy companies act in a responsible manner when it comes to both customer safety and service.

The CER has established a stringent set of rules and criteria that must be met by energy price comparison sites, such as bonkers.ie, in order to be worthy of accreditation. The function of accreditation is to "underpin customer confidence", according to the CER's audit report.

Services such as ours undergo rigorous testing across a range of categories to verify that price calculations are completely accurate, that all tariffs are up-to-date and that the service is totally impartial, giving no preference whatsoever to one supplier over another.

Every year, the CER audits bonkers.ie to ensure that its strict standards are continuing to be met. And we’re very pleased to have had our accreditation confirmed once again.

CER accreditation is very important to us, as it means that customers can be confident that the figures and information we provide – both across our comparison pages and our blog - have undergone thorough testing and are reliable.

Why Does it Matter?

There are now 8 suppliers in the gas and electricity market in Ireland, and competition is strong. This is good news for customers but means that it can be challenging to understand exactly which option is the best for each household’s unique needs. And that’s where bonkers.ie comes in.

We compare every tariff from every supplier and clearly show customers what each option would cost them based on their individual requirements and preferences. CER accreditation is a vital aspect of what we do, as it allows customers know that our calculations are trustworthy and accurate, down to the cent.

As stated in the CER's audit report, "it is of paramount importance that consumers have a positive experience using price comparison websites and that a switch delivers the expected cost savings". And we are glad to continue to meet these standards for consumers.

Commenting on the good news, our MD, David Kerr said, “We are very pleased to have had our CER accreditation renewed for the fourth consecutive year. We’re a service that consumers can trust and the CER’s stamp of approval makes that official, which is a strong endorsement of the brand values and service we deliver to our customers. With so many suppliers and good deals to be had now, it’s very important that consumers have complete confidence in the accuracy and impartiality of our service when seeking to lower their bills”.
