Hi there – I’m writing this because the issue has been niggling away at me. I go my Airtricity bill the other week and it was a little on the high side in comparison to previous bills received. I never got the notice to enter a meter reading even though previously I had done so. I called Airtricity as I got all these extra charges on the bill and did not understand them:
Standing Charge P2 Dom Urban 9.00 0.4256 3.83
Standing Charge P2 Dom Urban 7.00 0.3790 2.65
Standing Charge P2 Dom Urban 51.00 0.3460 17.65
Airtricity basically said ‘Opps- we did not charge to the correct rate previously so here’s the difference’ I wasn’t bright enough to say at the time –‘well – why am I paying for your mistake? If I made a mistake and rang you up and asked you to pay for my mistake – would you?.... No – didn’t think so’ Is there anyone I can just register a complaint with – as I am getting a bit tired of the old ‘rip-off utilities’ culture in Ireland – I know I won’t get far – but I’m paying more for my summer bill than I did for the previous spring bill and haven’t had the heating on since April! Sorry but it’s just niggling away at me! Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

Hi Mairead,
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your supplier - it can be very frustrating that even though the error appears to have been corrected, you had notify your supplier that the mistake had been made so they could correct it.
Mistakes such as yours can happen from time to time - it's an unfortunate side effect of the shear number of different price plans out there. I'm glad that your case was resolved to your satisfaction.
You mentioned wishing to register a complaint - the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) operates a website called http://www.energycustomers.ie/ - on that site they have fully detailed section on how to go about registering a complaint and the role they would play to resolve one.
I hope this helps.
best wishes
David.
